Top 10 strangest fashion trends

Fashion changes and morphs as people discover new styles and colour combinations. As they find interesting ways to make bold statements through clothing, fashion trends gain popularity (or lose it) over time. Some of the fashion trends that come into existence are less than aesthetically pleasing, wildly inconvenient and generally nonsensical and strange... This isn't entirely a bad thing - after all, it does give us something to laugh about.

1. Popped collar

Popped collars were originally designed to shade the wearer's neck, and were very stiff and uncomfortable to wear. Once tennis shirts arrived with soft collars, everybody was spared from upturned collars, to their relief. But, somehow, popped up collars have become popular once more, among a rather large number of people in the world.

2. Stuck-together clothing

"Wow!" you exclaim, as you see two items of clothing on one hanger that are labeled at the price for one item. You take your find to the changing room and attempt to take one item off the hanger to try it on, when you discover that both items are sewn together on purpose and can't be worn separately. Stuck-together clothing is one of the most frustrating trends and one of the silliest, too.

3. Saggy pants

This style has origins in prison, where belts and shoelaces are confiscated. The result of baggy, low-sagging pants is not a chosen one, but somehow it came to be that people wanted to have the "just convicted" look.

4. Shaved patterns

The trend of shaving patterns into the side of guys heads is a fairly popular one at the moment, especially in combination with miniature mullets, pierced ears and upturned caps (worn both outdoors and indoors, of course).

5. Strange glasses

It's something of a fad among the youth to wear glasses that serve no real purpose. While some teenagers enjoy wearing frames void of lenses for a fake nerdy look, others have been inspired by Kanye West to bring shutter shades back into style.

6. Kegadoru bandage fashion

A new fashion trend in Japan involves girls wrapping themselves in bandages and eye patches. Kegadoru translates to "injured idols" and apparently the bandages that these girls wear attract a lot of attention from men. The colour of the bandages that are worn have particular meanings with white symbolizing chastity and virginity and with black symbolizing a darker side...

7. Tightlacing

Corsets are popular fashion items, although today most corsets worn don't have the same functionality that they used to have, i.e. suffocating the wearer while pushing and squeezing their body into a more desirable shape. However, there is a community of people called "tightlacers" who purposefully wear corsets that considerably narrow down the size of their waists.

8. Plastic nipples

Designed to advertise a woman's arousal, these plastic nipples have become rather strangely popular, even among celebrities. They're worn underneath a shirt and are fixed in place using a little bit of suction.

9. Eye jewelry

People seem to be running out of places to pierce and areas of the body to dangle jewelry from, so one innovative designer came up with a line of jewelry that hangs from a contact lens and dangles onto your cheek below. Another fairly new type of jewelry is a potentially harmful procedure that involves implanting a small jewel into the conjunctiva of the eye, which is alright if you don't mind risking your eyesight for an unusual piece of decoration.

10. Mantyhose

Mantyhose is a new line of pantyhose for men. Men wear it to increase blood circulation in their legs, keep warmer during winter and to show off their attractively shaped limbs. Apparently, it goes well with all kinds of shorts and shoes, and different colours and patterns are super-easy to mix and match with your outfits.
